- ESiWACE3 is organising a hackathon in October 18-20, 2023 at CSC in Finland. The event is targeted at weather and climate modellers at all career stages. The participants will bring their own codes to the hackathon and work in teams, together with HPC experts. This will be the first of four ESiWACE3 hackathons, and the goal of this event is to help climate scientists port and optimise their codes to new architectures, such as LUMI.

ESiWACE3 hackathon and eflows4HPC workshop
ESiWACE3, a Center of Excellence in simulation of weather and climate in Europe, is organising a hackathon in October 18-20, 2023 at CSC in Finland.
This will be an on-site event at CSC with no remote participation possibility. The hackathon is organised in tangent with eFlows4HPC – ESiWACE communities workshop meeting on 17th of October. You have the option to apply to attend either or both events. More information and registration for the workshop can be found here: https://eflows4hpc.eu/event/hpc-workflows-for-climate-models/
Who can apply?
Alongside the ESiWACE community, the event is open to anyone who is a member of an organisation eligible to receive an allocation for LUMI compute resources. We encourage especially groups with early career scientists, female researchers as well as those from ITC countries (https://www.cost.eu) to apply.
All the teams need to be committed, well prepared and know their applications in great detail and have clear plans for what they want to achieve and an idea how to do it. We are looking for proposals outlining a team effort of, for example, solving porting and/or performance issues with their code. Ideally, the scope should be limited so that good progress can be made during the hackathon with your team of typically two (2) to four (4) people.
Please note that we strongly prefer open source applications.
