What is your role in ESiWACE?

The Atos’ Center for Excellence in Performance Programming (CEPP) is mainly involved in the “HPC services to prepare the community for the pre-exascale”. My role is to coordinate the project services on “Model portability and refactoring” for Atos in collaboration with the Netherlands eScience Center. I’m also involved in the performance analysis and benchmarking of weather and climate codes.

What do you appreciate most about your work?

I really appreciate working in collaboration with the Weather and Climate community, with experts from the domain and from high performance computing. These exchanges of expertise improve our knowledge and more personally my understanding in this very interesting field.

Which question in climate and weather research interests you the most?

As a computer scientist, my interest is in helping to find the best performance achievable with the right combination of software and hardware for current and future climate and weather simulations.

What drives you and what do you want to achieve?

I believe that close collaboration is key to address the challenges of improving weather and climate model performance, thus achieving better predictions, which impact our daily life, can help prevent extreme weather events and inform decision-making to better prepare us for an uncertain climate future.
